Here’s the number that says the most about drinking in this city with a dog: of the 22 bars we’ve checked in Copenhagen, every single one welcomes dogs inside. Not one is outside-only. Not one has a rule about it.
That isn’t true of cafés, where two of 64 are terrace-only, and it certainly isn’t true of restaurants. Bars are the most relaxed room in Copenhagen for a dog, and it isn’t close.
The reason is probably that most of these are neighbourhood locals rather than destinations — wine bars where the same fifteen people come in every week, taprooms with a patio, bodegas that have been there longer than anyone remembers. A dog under the table is just part of the evening.
Evenings are easier than afternoons. A wine bar at six on a Tuesday is the calmest room your dog will sit in all week. The same bar at ten on a Friday is a different proposition.
Nobody will mind. Somebody might be busy. Only one of these venues puts a condition on it, and it’s a sensible one — Pompette in Nørrebro welcomes dogs inside when it isn’t too busy. Everywhere else, in you go.
Nørrebro is the centre of this. Ten of the 22 are in Nørrebro, more than everywhere else combined. If you want a choice of bars within a short walk, that’s where to start.
It’s mostly wine and beer, not cocktails. Natural wine bars and taprooms dominate this list, which suits the atmosphere — lower music, more sitting, less standing.
Natural wine, neighbourhood feel
Veranda on Griffenfeldsgade is a wine bar, deli and bottle shop in one — everything organic, small-batch and carefully chosen, and one of the best-known dog-friendly rooms in Nørrebro. Pompette pours natural wine at friendly prices with charcuterie and burrata, and is a good stop either side of a walk through Assistens Kirkegården. Vinhanen serves wine straight from steel tanks, simply done. Rascal on H.C. Ørsteds Vej has a strong natural list with cheese and charcuterie. Isola in Østerbro was founded by a Sicilian winemaker and has a piano for spontaneous moments. Laban in the Meatpacking District pairs wine with vinyl.
Beer and taprooms
Ølhaven is hidden in Boltens Gård with 26 Danish taps and gentle Japanese-inspired design — built for settling in with a dog. Haven sits by Nørrebroparken with another 26 taps and food from ApizzA, and is explicitly welcoming to dogs after a wander in the park. Alefarm Taproom — little sister to Haven and Ølhaven — has 20 taps and a patio by the lake. Kompasset Ølbar in Østerbro has 12 taps, 50-plus bottles, and cosy corners where a dog can settle.
Aperitivo and something lighter
Paloma Vermuteria in Nørrebro is vermouth-led, with palomas, negronis and padrón peppers. FiFi is a sunny Nørrebro spot for spritzes and good alcohol-free drinks, best on the terrace at golden hour. Bottega Barlie in Frederiksstaden runs from morning coffee to evening wine — bright, green and relaxed all day.
Proper locals
Gensyn Bar in Frederiksberg mixes bodega charm with good cocktails, fair prices and a snooker table. The Barking Dog, between Sankt Hans Torv and the Lakes, does inventive drinks fast with low music and room to talk — and yes, the name is a coincidence worth enjoying. Josephine on Amager is part bottle shop, part bar, with a quiet corner inside and out.

Gotland in Østerbro and Marstrand Café & Vinbar in Frederiksberg both run from morning coffee through to midnight with Danish craft beer and wine. Lorraine in Frederiksberg is a café and cocktail bar known for small plates and pies. Villette and Gaarden & Gaden in Nørrebro and Apollo Bar on Nyhavn are restaurants with a proper bar side.
