If Nørrebro is where you drink with a dog, Østerbro is where you walk one. It has four of the city’s fourteen parks, including Fælledparken — the biggest green space in Copenhagen — and Kastellet, which is a fortress with a moat and possibly the most scenic loop you can do on a lead.
It’s also the roomiest part of the city indoors. Østerbro cafés tend to be corner rooms with bench seating rather than the tight spaces of Nørrebro, which makes it the easiest neighbourhood in Copenhagen for a big dog. Thirteen cafés, eleven of which welcome dogs inside.
Twenty-nine places, all checked. Here’s what’s here.

This is Østerbro’s real claim. Four parks, and between them they cover everything.
Fælledparken is Copenhagen’s largest — open lawns and room for a proper long walk. Kastellet is a star-shaped fortress with grassy ramparts and harbour wind, and it’s the loop to do if you want the walk to be an event. Østre Anlæg has curved paths, a lake and grassy slopes, and is the kindest of the four on an older dog. Kildevældsparken is the local one — a pond, soft paths, and a mellow circuit.
Thirteen cafés, and the thing that sets them apart is space. Where Nørrebro is snug, Østerbro is wide — bench seats, corner rooms, and enough floor that a big dog isn’t in anyone’s way.
Lagoni is spacious and laid back, sitting between Fælledparken and the Lakes. Salonen 222 has room for a curious dog, plus a water bowl and treats. Ø.12 Østerbro is the original of the three, with Østre Anlæg across the road. Copenhagen Coffee Lab is minutes from both Kildevældsparken and Fælledparken. Dallas København on Victor Borges Plads has a generous outdoor area. The Laundromat Café pairs coffee with books. Coffee Collective is the one for the coffee itself. Gotland runs from morning coffee through to midnight. The two ShaBaz cafés — Strandboulevarden and Østerbrogade — are steady neighbourhood spots.
LéLé welcomes dogs inside but not on the furniture; the vintage pieces are all for sale.
Two are outside only: Cafe Bopa and Cafe Pixie, both on and just off Bopa Square. Both are good, and in summer outside is where you’d want to be anyway. In winter, plan differently.
Abaco brings Mediterranean street food from two fine-dining chefs — limited indoor seating, dogs warmly welcome, water bowl always ready. Sticks’n’Sushi Østerbro is bright and calm near Fælledparken, with water and snacks for dogs. For a drink, Isola was founded by a Sicilian winemaker and has a piano; Kompasset Ølbar has 12 taps and cosy corners where a dog can settle.
Charlottehaven is serviced apartments with a pool and a café — quiet enough for a sensitive dog, close enough to the parks. Hotel Østerport is a short walk from Kastellet. Rye115 Hotel is a characterful 1905 building with individually styled rooms.
Three pet shops: Maxi Zoo Østerbrogade, Petlux Østerbro and Zoo Center Østerbro. Østerbro Hundesalon is a calm, one-dog-at-a-time grooming salon. And Hundeklinikken is the city’s dog-only vet clinic, built around low-stress visits — worth knowing about if your dog hates the vet.
