Nørrebro is where Copenhagen is loudest, youngest and most itself. It’s dense, it’s busy, and it has more dog-friendly bars than the rest of the city put together — ten of our twenty-two, most of them within a few streets of each other.
It’s not the easiest part of town for a dog that needs a lot of room. The cafés are small, the pavements are shared with a great many bicycles, and the green space is two decent parks rather than one big one. But it’s the best part of the city for an afternoon that starts with coffee and ends with a glass of wine, with your dog under the table for both.

This is Nørrebro’s real claim. Ten dog-friendly bars, every one of which welcomes dogs inside, and most of them the kind of neighbourhood place where the same faces turn up every week.
Veranda on Griffenfeldsgade is wine bar, deli and bottle shop in one. Pompette pours natural wine at friendly prices — dogs inside when it isn’t too busy. Vinhanen serves wine straight from steel tanks. Haven sits by Nørrebroparken with 26 taps and pizza. Alefarm Taproom has 20 taps and a patio by the lake. Paloma Vermuteria is vermouth-led with padrón peppers. FiFi does spritzes and good alcohol-free drinks. The Barking Dog, between Sankt Hans Torv and the Lakes, makes inventive drinks with low music and room to talk. Gaarden & Gaden and Villette both run as restaurant and bar.
Eight, all welcoming dogs inside, and several of them among the best coffee in the city. The catch is space — Nørrebro cafés are small, and three of these say so openly.
Andersen & Maillard on Nørrebrogade roasts on site and sits directly across from Assistens Kirkegården. Darcy’s Coffee on Rantzausgade is calm inside with soft corners. Mokkariet near Runddelen is a local favourite that gets full — worth checking with staff. Cafe Bevar’s runs from early morning to late night. The Artisan Copenhagen roasts small batches by the Lakes.
Three are snug and best suited to a smaller dog: Bonni, which can only take small dogs and says so; Saftig Kaffe on Prinsesse Charlottes Gade, excellent and tight; and The Sixteen Twelve on Jægersborggade, better for small dogs inside with outdoor tables in summer.
Two parks, and they do different jobs.
Assistens Kirkegården is a tree-lined cemetery that functions as the neighbourhood’s calmest space — Hans Christian Andersen and Kierkegaard are buried there, and locals walk it every day. Dogs on the lead, and it’s worth walking quietly.
Nørrebroparken is a long green strip with grassy corners — sociable rather than peaceful, past bikes and coffee stops.
Three hotels, all different. Hotel Kong Arthur sits by the lakes with a courtyard worth lingering in. Manon Les Suites is a Balinese-inspired place with a central pool that feels more holiday than hotel. Numa Copenhagen Nørrebro is smart, independent and well placed for exploring on foot.
Blågård Dyreklinik — local, down-to-earth, and the sort of place where they’ll know your dog’s name after two visits.

Very, if you like a city walk. It has more dog-friendly bars than any other part of Copenhagen and eight cafés that welcome dogs inside. It’s less good for a dog that needs a lot of open space — that’s Østerbro or Amager.

Yes, on the lead. It’s a working cemetery as well as a much-used local park, so walk it quietly and keep to the paths.
